of such the general rule that must be made for giving
compleat allowance to such a mode of defence
against an a verbal attack made upon a man's reputation
would be the giving birth encouragement to a multitude
of personal attacks without any cause, or at
least without sufficient cause. Of course the
mischief of such an effect when particularised
would be 1st the organical pain of most attacks In the such parties, who as should become the objects incident to which it is in the nature of such attacks to produce. 2dly In those person and others the mental pain of apprehension
grounded on such organical pain.
