18) Personal Injuries. Aggrav.
Reasons for giving different names. &c. ones. The For distinguishing injuries of the acute kind simple personal injuries
those of the acute kind and those of the unpleasant
there are two reasons. One is the making it appear
that those of the latter kind are really real injuries
really and seriously mischievous, as much as truly so
as those of the former kind whose title to be so deemed
is obvious and uncontested. The other is, that out
of this class by the addition of a slight circumstance
are formed personal injuries of the contumelious
kind: injuries of a much grosser nature more mischievous kind than such
as are simply organical.
The three kinds of injuries [the effects of which are
in their nature] that stand characterized by a mischief
which is in it's nature permanent] are ranked under
[these] three different names not so much for any
very important difference there is between the
three: in point of mischievousness, as because
the language furnishes there three names already without
furnishing any one that will [answer the purpose
of them all.] convey the import of them all.
