Offences against one's Self
Be this as it may, the minuteness or monstrosity
of the mischief are no reasons why a legislator
should not try apply himself to remedy them: only let him take
care that the remedy be not worse than the disease.
The matter of the Law respecting offences of this
class will naturally resolve distribute itself under the same
heads as that of the Law respecting the two other presiding
classes [of offences]: for whether or not it is by his own
[hand] act or that of another that a man suffers
the various ways in which he is capable of suffering, may be made to suffer
the parts in which he is vulnerable, are still
the same. If he suffers at all it must be either
in his person, his property, his reputation [his rank]
his [domest condition domestic domestic condition, his occupation civil or domestic]
or his power.
