C. 9 Paederasty Inf.

Horror of Singularity
In men persons of weak minds, any thing which is unusual
and at the same time physically disgustful
is apt to raise excite the passion of hate. Hatred when
once exerted naturally seeks it's gratification
in the tormenting or destruction of the object that
excited it. [Hence it is that] To this head we
may refer (for this can hardly be called accounting
for the phenomenon) the propensity which] persons
of weak and capricious irritable temperament particularly
women have to the killing of toads and
spiders. Many are the innocent animals who are punished in this way for the crime of being ugly. The offspring of a woman when it
has had any singularity whereby it has been
distinguished in a remarkable degree from the
ordinary race of human beings has often met with under the name of monster
the same treatment. Hermaphrodites who have not knowing of what sex they were have performed the functions of both

Envy has here joined with antipathy in letting loose
against these unfortunate people the fury of the
appetite.

As desire to hurt the any sensitive object from that rendered
itself an extreme which in any way has happen'd
to become a cause of pain to us, or the
nay were insensitive objects, is the natural &
instantaneous effect consequence of such pain: and it always
breaks not into , unless where reason and reflection interfere
and check it. But in these cases reason far from checking
has appeared from one cause or other to dictate such behaviour.
