4 C Crueltyies to Animals.
Between the case of a man, however, and that of
other animals there is however this essential difference.
Killing of a man is the worst crime that
can be committed against man: why? not on account of what the man himself suffer'd who is who is killed: for that is commonly less than he would have suffer'd by a natural death: but because of the
terror which such an act strikes into other men.
To this terror other animals are not liable. Other animals To make
amends for their inferiority in other respects other animals
have the privilege of not knowing that they are
to die. Killing another animals therefore is nothing:
the only harm is in tormenting them while they
live.
