Toleration granted to the worst tenets

So little has the zeal for Church uniformity to do with
the interest of society which is made the pretence for
it, that, let me observe it, prevail in having this well observed that I may forever pull
off the mask that I may for ever pull off the mask from from superstition & Intolerance
in the guise of Toleration that among the only the very tenets
[in favor of which Churchmen have been formed
to depart of their fractiousness] which it Churchmen have has hitherto
been thought proper, been brought to have to see indulged those which make the favored ones
figure are those which the very ones & those only which are
calculated to] have an evil influence and as far as
it goes they have any, upon the welfare interests of Society.

Does a man hold for that community of goods possessions
by which industry is damped>, commerce is made to confined
languish, & every all improvement by taking away the incentives
to it, discouraged? Let him come enter in. Does he
hold for the unlawfulness of defence, by which that most
pernicious deleterious of all tenets (in a single state nation I mean) were
it universal, by which the most flourishing of nations
was not long ago well nigh brought to ruin? let him stay.
provided always, he understand undertakes to aright the composition
of the God-head

---page break---

Does a man misunderstand it, that is, does he not understand
it as those do, who, when it serves their turn
are ready enough to profess they know nothing of the
matter? it is a question whether he you is fit to live.
Is he of that singular unsociable race of men, who fatten
upon the fruits of others labour, but who never made
any thing themselves but pencils & promotion? he
may dwell fatten on in in peace.
God forbid I should be understood. A man had better (had a better account) as being a Jew than a dissenter

In this country I would defend the liberties which every
one of them enjoys, as I would my own.
Why so? because there is no fear but in a country nation
enlightened & ..... as this, there will always be enough &
to spare who are neither Jews Quakers nor Moravians,
after all who owing is given to all those who
wish it, to indulge themselves in those their several
conceits. And by what standard is this fundamentality to be tried? he knows of none, (his fanaticism driving not from to reject that of the influence on the public welfare) but the degree of anger he happens to feel at seeing them disputed.
