§ Notaries

H's sole source of
Foreign Law, Napoleon's
Code. I refer
to another.

H. one honest Lawyer.
In France, I will shew
him thousands.

But first comes the
analytical table of the
Lawyer class:

3.

Most mischievous
the magisterial: mischief
done partly by itself
partly by it's instruments.

4.

French Judges-those
within the reach of the
corruption fountain
issuing from the
corrupt in King interesting
suits: in others
pure: all the others

5.

French rulers, seeing
in England more money
and undeserved
respect extracted
from ruled than elsewhere,
send missionaries
to observe the
process that it may be
imitated. Well treated
by Whigs, Tories, Judges
and other lawyers, they
report every thing
admirable.

6.

In this zoology, divisions
no more than
necessary for practice.
Omitted the varieties
of the attorney division,
and tho
formed by the conjunction
of the official
with the professional
lawyers.

7.

In the hearts of the magisterial
class to sew common
honesty seeds so
long as fees constitute part
of this food would be to
sew corn in aqua fortis.

8.

Sole class in which honesty
can from, the non
litigational, the Notaries:

Under Rome bred law
they exist every where:
in France particularly:
under the English bred
no where.

9.

Separation compleat:
no litigational lawyer
can be a non litigational:
no non litigational
a litigational.

10.

Banker such as our's

Notaries as to purchase

Bankers. They form a
sort of body corporate.

11.

Universally pure they
are objects of universal
confidence.

12.

Not long ago a Paris Notary
absconded with a
purchase money. The
event was a prodigy.
The body at their own expence
made good the
loss.

13.

English Conveyances, two
classes: the attorney and
Barrister. Parties saddled
with both.

Small value business
is done by Attornies alone:
large value business
by attornies and
Parishes conjoined.

Conveyancers, so called,
are all Barristers: aptitude
proved in Peel's

Say pure Conveyances
as pure Surgeons.

Schoolmaster Conveyances.

4.

In England, lately has
sprung up a self constituted
class of Notaries
for the Lawyer's
classes. As in
France Notary is a
non-lendingpleading Barrister
in England, the people's
Notary is Commonly
a Schoolmaster.
Impurity no more
from the one than
the other conjunction.

15.

For the suppression
of the people's notaries,
petitions from attornies
multiply.

Alledged justificative
cause, ignorance.

16.

True the fast unwarranted
the conclusion.
Still greater is
relative ignorance in
the Attorney class.
In the litigational
business it has been
increasing these 64
years. (J.B's acc recollection
time.) It is new
portentous. Witness
Ld. Redesdale and his
"Considerations": on
which has
increased, is increasing,
and ought to be
diminished. Cause,
the increase in the
quantity of Law Matter,
as per H. p. 162.
