Still plundering with one hand, still twisting with the other
they might add the influence exercised by reward to the influences
exercised by punishment - they might cover themselves with the
love admiration and gratitude of the profits, could that h
muster up resolution enough - could they but prevail upon themselves
to snatch them out of the jaws of lawyers to deliver them
out of the hands of lawyers.
