For giving denomination to the respective result of the
several sectional operations I employ in Latin numeral
appellations, bis, tres, quadries and so forth

The divisions here in question are the logical ones
— viz logical, as
Chapter —Section:
and mechanical, as
Tomes, Volumes
alone not the physical or say mechanical ones. Those
in the list of successive sectional operations, that of
which in English and French Volumes, in French Tomes
are the result have no place: for where the logical which
remains undivided, need may have place for the making
a mechanical division of the physical whole. Volumes

The whole wish then under that meaning or that of
is considered as the denomination of the integer.

By a first divisional operation suppose this integer divided
into parts has parts called — say has parts number of them say two: to each
of these two parts, they being constituting together the result of the first sectional operation
I give the name of section

Of these two sections, by a second sectional operation
one is divided into suppose three parts, the other into four,
to each on individual of the second groups of parts I give the name
of bisection: and so on as long as this sting of numerical
denominations lasts
