167 Note [In regard to the] preposition or, on every occasion, the distinction
between its alternative and its synonymity expressing
sense: when it is the alternative sense add to it for example the word
else: when the synonymity-expressing, the word say.

17. In the use of names substantive Avoid as far as may be without ambiguity
the addition of the plural number to the singular. Where
the plural alone is meant there are forms by which it may
be expressed by using the singular alone. But where on any
occasion one object in the singular as well on the one part, and
an aggregate of the like objects in the plural are meant to be
expressed, both numbers must be expressed with the preposition
and, or else the preposition or in the alternative sense will be necessary
to be employed. ☞ have the Look out

from person taken singly, both being the taken for subject matters of mandate or objects of reference, both
numbers singular and
