Defendant B:
§ of the Code
itself

(2) (5 "Exceptions excepted

One of these formulæ is presented in contained in the words, Exceptions
excepted.
. This limitation makes instead of leaving it as usual
in the customary form embedded in the principal matter position,
Mr Bentham carefully uniformly extracts and places it at in the
head-and-front of the Article: adding in the next succeeding Article a list
of the exceptions.

Thus then By this means the mind of the draughtsman, and after
it the minds of the readers are provided with a place
without fear of error they may apply themselves of to the principal
and most extreme position for any length of time that
convenience may recommend.

Where the exception comes to exception comes to be brought to view, or what
will occur more commonly the exceptions cause to be enumerated
and stated one after another in so many distinct paragraphs
every one of these objects again may without difficulty
and at large leisure receive whatsoever degree of moderation
the importance of it appears to demands.

On the other hand, in the current practice, imprisoned
in the parentheses and hurried along at the same time by
the necessity of arriving at the send of the paragraph before so
much as any a single proposition can be laid bold, finds itself
in the condition of a passenger in a mail coach [move

a momentary pause: if he pu for the purpose of applying
his mind to the exception he indulges permitts himself with a though it be he momentary
pause the thread of the principal position is broken,
and to gather up the commensu he must either give up put aside
all which is incomprehensible, or carry his mind back
again to the commencement of the Article.
