This they seem all of them pretty well agreed upon
but lest this cause should not in the eyes of a sufficient
part of the public be adequate and satisfactory this or that
set of human victims to be sacrificed upon the altar in
the character of scape goats are laid hold of by those
whose situation emboldens them to take greater limit
liberties with persons than prudence would suffer to be
taken by advocates in a lower sphere of a less elevated rank to what soever
cause the disorder is attributed it must of course be
such if possible as every one must see to be altogether
unsusceptible of any effectual remedy Lord Ridesdale
for example has recourse in the first place to the
uncontrollable nature of things but lest that should
not be universally satisfactory looking about for the
shoulders which when the burden of the imputation is
to be laid upon them are least capable of opposing
resistance and repelling the attack with effect the victims he
lays hold of are the Solicitor so universal is their
inaptitude so thick the confusion and perplexity in
which the whole system has been involved by them not
that their fears need on this account to be very acute
for this disorder arising growing as it does out of the other is
like that other an incurable one from this hypothesis
should it even be universally admitted no danger is
threatened to the most vulnerable part of the pocket;
a slight scratch upon their amour propre and at this
price they are insured against all loss in a tangible
shape.
