By another portion set of profession reformists a
discovery has been made of another class of apparent victims.
Of this exhibition Scotland is the scene reformists the professional
men proposed victims the official men of this
latter class the number it seems is too great the embarrassment
produced with its consequences the factitious delay
in vexation and expense proportionable the surplusage is
of course to be got rid of but how of course not by
turning them adrift to starve starvation is never the
lot of any of the public servants it is confined to those
whom they profess and are supposed to serve indemnity indemnification
and in no scanty measure is of course assumed
as implied in every such proposal and upon this condition
these servants of justice receiving in the shape of retired
allowance to the full value of present emolument with
the faculty of applying time and talent to the extraction
of emolument to any amount from other sources their
sufferings are in no great danger of being excessive
resistance in any very desperate degree need not be
apprehended
