London Petition for Judicial Reform and against Eldon

For these crimes as
any others which men
in their several situations
are capable of committing
and we
are too well acquainted
with what is called
the Constitution to entertain
any the faintest
hope of seeing
punishment or so much
as simple reward
employed. We know
from due experience
that by the mere form
of giving ease to an
made for the purpose
under a before fixt
undeclared resolution to order the
decree these forms
of all efficiency legisla
the whole business of legislature
would for an
indefinite number of
months be kept at a
stand

We know and feel but
too sensibly what by
the word importuning and
the phrase address of
both Houses of Parliament
no penalty has
always been meant to
be given and always in effect
has been given to crime
in every shape in which
by means of situation crimes
by persons in the highest
situation.
We

We do not pray for
that any thing which we know to
be impossible

We do not pray for
the impeachment of the
Lord Chancellor.

We do not pray for
the impeachment of any
of those Judges

We do not pray
for so much as one
Address of your Honourable
House much
less for an address of
both Houses for the
of any one
of them.

We order via prayers
within the limits — narrow
as they are — inadequate
as is the latitude they
contained within them —
within the limits of that
which is strictly presentable

What we pray for
and all that we pray
for is that of this one
petition the Your Honourable
House would
be pleased to give such
countenance that
the prime matter of
all the suffering we
complain of may
deem it more accordant
with his personal case
and personal comfort
to desist from his the course
of oppression and depredation
than to
any longer to persevere
in it.

and that his collaboration
in that work
after receiving from
You
the hands of Your
Honourable House such
ample compensation as in its
wisdom it shall

deem accordant
with justice for the
surrender of the right
of doing wrong may
feel it to be for their
interest to forbear abstain from
making
opposition (declared
or undeclared, to
such means as
shall be most conducive
to the establishment of a
system of Judicial
Procedure having
for its object the
the encrease, not the diminution of execution
and effect to the
body of the substantive
laws and the diminution
not the encrease
of delay vexation and
expence for the sake
of the profit extractable
from the offence:
in a word the substitution
of the ends purpose of
justice to those which
have been hitherto
the actual ends of
judicature.

and a judicial
establishment suitable
,and indispensably
necessary to the accomplishment
of those ends.

In defence of all
principles and with the
most
in how soon and
to see this Lord Chancellor
putting into the
of his own Son in
the false pretence of
official service by
the office
as profession and
by these and other other or reason
other office or
reversion securing for him
a fortune not less than
£9,000 per annum
not a penny of which
is not contributing
to the aggregate
of human suffering
and to the denial of
justice.

We do not pray for
the refunding of the whole
or of any the smallest
part of the money thus
obtained by false pretences.
We do not
pray for so much as
the cessation of the
with which the
fraud is accompanied and
the by which the money
is extracted. We
know but too well that
by the two words vested
and rights when put
together depredation to
any amount
at all times we
as will not say by
your Honourable House
is deemed an altogether
adequate justification.
