Box 81 contains Bentham's writings on petitions. In his later years, Bentham came to believe that popular support could help him to secure legal reform. He wanted to encourage the people to petition Parliament for radical change. Bentham's 'Petition for Justice' was printed in 1829 and it called for the remodelling of the judicial establishment. Bentham hoped that he could gather signatures on this petition and then present it to the House of Commons in support of his reform plans.
