And as of all means of resistance, the refusal of the impost
is the most simple and the most secure, France will
prefer it royalist France as well as liberal France—
timid and peaceable France as well as devoted France.
In this way the party which had tormented and
agitated us for fifteen years will receive its
coup de grace; that party which against our liberties,
compromises our tranquility, paralyzes our
strength, and which, by skilful perfidy, has contrived
to bind its fate with that of Royalty; but
the union is not indissoluble. Let the
party be quickly overcome, and by a signal
separation Royalty also witt be saved. Let
if be quickly vanquished, we say; if not,
evil be to the conquerors!
