1828. Octr. 24
Petition for Justice

IV. Mendacity promoted

Order
1.†
First, mendacity and
its effects: then it's fabrication
by Oaths.

I Allowance
2.
I. Allowance. Unless
punishment were
somewhere attached
to falshood, no society
no fees.

I. Allowance
3.
Yet, if so attached
throughout, quantity
of fee yielding discourse
would be limited.

I. Allowance
4.
Hence the
From evidence as
above pleadings,
bringing them on
first, on the occasion
of them, you may give
full swing to mendacity,
so as punishment
remains attached to
falshood in evidence.

II. Compulsion
5.
2. Compulsion. By
the Plaintiff's Lawyer
for producing such
an inlet to gain,
no compulsion was
needed: to them, none

II. Compulsion
7.
Mode of application
Quoth Judge to Defendant's
pleader, if you answer
not in the same
mode Plaintiff's pleading,
I shall conclude
the demand well
grounded, and decree
accordingly.

II. Compulsion
8.
Thus was Defendant's
pleader (nothing lost)
compelled to produce
another such exhibition,
for which a pattern
as well as justification
was furnished
by the first.

II. Compulsion
III. Remuneration
9.
Thus, by the remuneration
and compulsion
was brought
forth a third exhibition
from the same
side as the first.

Chain
10.
Hence altercation
in an endless
chain.

Chain
11.
No such chain
under natural, domestic,
procedure.

Equity compulsion
12.
An improvement
upon this was – compulsion
of mendacity
applied to the instrument
first emitted.
But this was the work
of different hands.
