Intimidation the means
Bugbear the ordinary
judicatory
In every one of these cases reconciliation may be the nominal cause, intimidation
on the one side or the other the more probably real cause — intimidation
performed by pointing indication to the bugbear in the
back ground. Bugbear the ordinary Judicatory; the the Ogre fed and
fattened with the life-blood of so many innocents.

Persuasions by sympathy
not impossible but
infinitely less frequent
than by intimidation
True it is,That by the non demonstration of sympathy and in the
beauty of virtue it may happen to an individual in here and there
to desist or abate from what in his eyes is his right, is certainly
a result not altogether impossible — is not altogether out
of the line of ordinary events: but that in comparison of
the intimidation inducement, the prevention of any such virtuous inducement should be frequent
is assuredly not within that same beautiful
