Supplement
§.2. Elucidation
History and Ætiology
or 3
Under the regular
system Lawyer's grand
endeavours. 1 Keeping back
the facts of the case as
long as possible
Under the regular system, the whole force of the
artist's mind has been applied to the keeping back the
facts of the case back as long as possible: mixing at the
same time, in the largest proportion possible, false conception
with true; with instructive. For this purpose, a
primordial and indispensable arrangement has been the
keeping out of the whole business from first to last as compleatly
as possible the party whose business it is, and
putting in his stead the hireling whose interest is directly
opposite to his. Yes directly opposite.
How should it be otherwise. For every operation performed a pretence can be found for
for any for the performance of which a portion sufficiently plausible pretence can be found,
a first charge: for every instrument a pretence
can be found for exhibiting or preparing the exhibition or preparation of, a first charge: in
the case of each such instrument the greater the number of
the words a pretence can be found for putting into it, the
heavier the charge.

2. Multiplying the
number of hands
employed
So likewise in regard to the multitude of those
of hired assistants of all sorts and sizes "In the multitude
"of Counsellors is safety" says holy writ: in the multitude
of Counsellors is distraction says experience, True it is
applied A pin, and nothing better
but True. But where truth is useful
correspondingly useful is every pin that can help to fix fasten it
in the minions mind.
Here then comes the distraction, for every hand
find a pretence for putting can be found for putting the business it through a fresh charge
