§ 4 Religion
is apt to result to the community from this state of

magistrate commands a man to do a thing: which the

to do it: if he does it, he is punished by the one: if
he does it not, he is punished by the other. The
subject has then only this alternative:
fear of the proscription or fear of damnation: the fear
of the sword or the fear of eternal fire.
