The question
of personality
may regard 1.
the offender or
2. another
It is to be observed that the question of personality
may be material in two points of view shapes : in
all cases, in as far as it respects the supposed offender; and
and in some cases in as much as it may respect
the person of one who may innocently be made
the subject of the offence. The nature and use of this
distinction will presently be perceived.

Its use against
various offences
Taking Running now the several offences in the order
in which they stand in the table [for this is the
way to leave nothing overlooked] let us briefly mark I will set down
all those in to which the expedient in question applies
in any of the shapes that have been mentioned
with any particular degree of advantage.
