Indirect Legislation § 6

Political

But

But not till after he had [offended] become the murderer
of his brother

This is the sort of stuff that rhetoric is made
of: in which the object is to poison play upon lay hold of the
prejudices and the weaknesses of the hearers readers mankind and
to poison the judgment through the channel of the
imagination.

Text resumed

[One word may conclude this head.] The policy of
Alfred was to make each man responsible for the
conduct of his neighbour: the policy here is to make
each man responsible for his own.
