But it seems there is a necessity for all
this: for I know not how it is but among the
members of the Church of England who profess
themselves friends to revelation religion, there seems
to be a sort of general persuasion that religion revelation
at this time would never stand the test of a free
discussion, and the very freedom which at first
was necessary to its birth growth and afterwards to its
reformation would not prove infallibly prove mortal

"fanatics and unbelievers."
Such seems to have been the real reasons of the
favourers of this act: or such at least they must have
been be to [operate in justification defence of it.] be applicable
to the purpose. To reasons like these I shall do
not hold it necessary to attempt an answer. I shall
leave them in full the undisturbed possession of every degree of
force that may belong to them.
