Retailing Gin

The restraints In the same view we may here
mention the restraints laid by the policy of sundry
British statutes on the retailing of spiritous liquors: the
design of which besides that of the raising a revenue is designed
to be the lessening the consumption of those articles.

The anxiety of
Under this head it will be proper also just to mention
a recent statute 21. G. 3. c. 49. by which the people are precluded
one object of which is to preclude the people from taking
amusement on a Sunday: this is done by forbidding
the opening of places of amusement on that day. The
