Indirect Legislation

possible mischiefs that may be brought upon the community
by the delinquency of individuals, and 1 2.

mischiefs may, any of them, be produced.
Recapitulating
passage
In the Chapter of pains and pleasures we
took an inventory of the several possible elements or ingredients
of into which mischief let it be of what kind it
will is ultimately resolvable. In the chapter of entitled
the Division of offences we took a general but
exhaustive view of the several possible mischiefs
that may be brought upon the community by the
delinquency of individuals, and of the several possible
sorts of acts by which those mischiefs may any of
them be produced. In the chapter last preceding
we took a general view of the nature of that power
which by means of a permanent set of instructions measures
occupies employs itself in the averting prevention of those evils. by measures of wide
