7. Religious impostures

Instructions shewing apprising the people of
the villainies that have been committed under favour
of the apprehensions entertained of the power
and malice of spiritual agents beings. or as likewise
Histories of this kind are unhappily but too numerous:
though not near so much so as of the instances
in which equal or greater miseries have been inflicted
through by process under authority of law through the
influence of similar delusions sincerely entertained.
There is no nation scarce a Christian nation which has not had tragedies of this
sort to answer for that have been occasioned by
the belief of witchcraft. Histories of the former class
would might furnish the matter of another homily
or set of homilies which might be read in churches,
and against which in Protestant countries at least
there ought to be no objection. To Those of the latter class
one should be afraid of giving the like publicity: the
suffrages of so many grave and upright judges as
have been dupes of this deplorable superstition would
be apt rather to confirm this prejudice or introduce the error than to exclude
it. It were much to be
wished it were possible
to get rid of the Witch
of Endor
I know not what mischief may have been done
by the Witch of Endor to hav by that enchantress to in the little country of Palestine:
