OBST. PREJUG. MOTIVES latent.1
The possibility of what is here said concerning the possibility
of a force's acting in the mind without being perceived,
will receive a confirmation
So intimate has a habit begun almost with life
& continued thru' every active moment of it
render'd the commission of between words with and Ideas, that tho'
words, may do very well often make their appearance without
any distinct Ideas, yet Ideas can hardly be have but a very imperfect said
existence perceptibility without the words to which they
have been thus indivisibly uninterruptedly conjoined. - whensoever
I have been searching for a word, I have been seemed
to myself as if feeling for the Idea itself to which
it is annexed, nor could I recognize the presence
of the Idea tillthe instant I had as it were laid hold of it:
from first which moment, & not before, I have always dated has always appeared as the
date of the discovery. What I have observed in this
behalf in myself, I suppose to be the case
with others - If therefore the unpleasantness
