be very unhappy to see realized: not simply - -
but because such a disposition could never be
-lanted in any man's judgment, till [after he has made] a formalsurrenderd
surrender of it into the hands of others to be [by them] returned by them,
impressed with that hasn't radical debilitation which as yields he-up a pregsur
to intermerable weaknesses& crimes - It is with this which may be stiled
a civil as with Ecclesiastical superstition, which innocent & useful in a fi in
few of it's most obvious effects is beyond measure
pernicious in others & in it's cause: in it's cause
because it can never be secured implanted till after but by extreme Tyranny & violence:
in it's effects consequences became in proportion, as a man is tormented with it,
he is becomes less of less fit for every generous on the subject of those Sciences on thre cultivation ofexertion of mental Strength on which the happiness
of that special depends who is trusted He is the worse Moralist the worse Politician the
worse Lawgiver, the worse Physician even the worse naturalist the worse Chymist the worse
Natural Phylosopher the worse Astronomer, as they well know who are conversant in
three Sciences, in a word often the worse man - A ct which also cannot exist in the
Judgment, without shewing itself in speculations & practises seemingly
the most remote, between the kindred affection of the material
Branch which ily it's influence to the most distant extremities
inflames them with convulsion or
chills them into Death.
