Instigation, what
To suggest motives to a man motives for engaging in
an offence in the view of causing him to engage
in it is stiled instigation; and such suggestion,
may be termed an instigator.

Instruction, what
To suggest means to a man the means
of for bringing about the obnoxious event, may be
termed instruction; and such suggester, an instructor.

Subornation, what
If a man Inclination is generated by motives.
If then a man furnishes another with inclination
to engage in any offence it must be by
means of motives. These motives are must either be
of the creation of created by him who furnishes him or not;
when they are not the part he takes is simply
that of instigation just defined: when they are of
his creation the part he takes may be stiled subornation,
and he himself in virtue thereof, a suborner (a)

(a) The term suborner has seldom been seldom used
with reference to any other offence than Perjury: but
it may with equal propriety be used with reference
to any other. To p. 4. at top
