21. C Of Compensation
1. It is capital, whatsoever it consist in; including land and other immoveables,
furniture, stock in trade, money out at interest, and so
forth; and whether in possession, certain expectancy, or contingency.
2. The profits of his labour, upon an average taken for such a
time back, as seems most likely to exhibit a due medium.
3. The pecuniary assistance he is in use to derive from any connections
he may have which are of a nature to yield him support.
For instance, the spontaneous allowance he may have from his parents
or other friends; from his Wife if she have a separate estate;
of if the person be a woman, her husband.

Among his disabling circumstances are to be reckoned

1. His Debts of every kind.
2. The pecuniary assistances he may stand engaged to bestow in
virtue of any connections he may have with persons who are naturally
dependent on him; such as his Wife if she have no separate
estate sufficient to maintain her; her husband in the same case, if
the person be a woman; his or her children or orphan grandchildren,
or other near relations in the descending, ascending or collateral lines, to whom
