Pains of the Mind, are also either Pains of the
Concupiscible Appetite or Pains of the Irascible
Pains of the Concupiscible Appetite
Pains of the Concupiscible Appetite are either Pains
of Privation Pains of Disappointment or Pains of Expectation Apprehension Expectation.
Pain of Privation, Instrument of a —
An object of Possession once in possession, and
then lost is the passive instrument of a Pain of
Privation.
Pain of Disappointment, Instrument of a —
An object of Possession Expectation, once in Expectation
and then ceasing to be in expectation is the
instrument of a Pain of Disappointment
Pain of Expectation or Apprehension.
A Pain of Expectation, may (on account of it's
being a Pain), be stiled also a Pain of Apprehension.
The instrument of a Pain of Apprehension
accordingly may be either 1st An instrument of Sufferance 2nd An object of Possession, or 23dly
an object of Expectation. or 3dly
— founded on one of the three others."
The pain apprehended may be either any of the
sorts of Pains spoken of above; it may be a Pain
of Sufferance, a Pain of Privation or a Pain of Disappointment.
