Sense of security [in French securite, security itself
being termed surite] sense of security and tranquillity
are included in the idea of security , or [comprehend] are used
to express blessing, blessing, the enjoyment possession of which is independent
of the law blessings which it is not in the power
of the law to give confer. The its Sense of security is in effect the notion of it
composed under in that of security: for security if
compleat extends to every species modification of damage, ample
mental damage or that is mental pain included, and to any
deficiency in point of sense of security, that is any degree
& to the sense of insecurity in any degree mental pain
pain of mind is inseparably attached.
The same thing may be said of tranquillity.
Want of tr To Want of tranquillity is attended with
a proportionable quantity of mental pain , so that
a deficiency in point of tranquillity is the same thing
with a defalcation from the branch of security which has reference
to that species of damage. As pain in general will
in many instances result from events with which
are not in the power of the law and over which the
law has no perceptible influence, such as disease,
domestic butchering heartburning, and disappointments and apprehensions
relative to events and transactions in
respect of which the law stands neuter, want of tranquillity
which this is the apprehension of any kind of pain or source of or — the
loss of any kind of pleasure or source of pleasure, is thus far
at to all such instances out of the province, out of the reach of law.
