The experiment should
be continued throughout
the summer months
i.e. to r inclusive,
in the 2d year

Reason.

1. That each preservandum
may have 12 months
of sojournment. (21
months gives the whole
1 month of emptiness.)

2. That the articles inserted
at the outset
may have for their
probation the whole
course of the summer
months - i.e. of the
hottest part of the year

65

The insertion it is
supposed may
in all Jany
(4(80y) say on the 1st
of Feby

Months to 31st July inclusive

Do to 31st Octr do

66

Suppose the course to
end the 31s July 1810
By that time the earliest
fowls and legumes
will have had 12 months
or more of sojournment
in which the warmest
months will have been
included: viz. strawberries,
raspberries, currants,
gooseberries, cherries,
peas, beans and
french beans.

And the other over keeping fruits will
have had from 12 to 20 months: viz.
Plums, Apricots, Peaches
Nectarines, and Mulberries.

67

Conclusion 31 July
1809 will be time
enough for the commencement insertion
of the Fowls,
Rabbits and Hearts in
Barrels: the course given
is that if any of the
articles in the phials
are found in the mean
time to spoil, the putting
the like articles
in Barrels will be
useless.

68

These apples as well
to Barrels in balneo
as to do in aeri.

69

To shew the influence
of if any, of a larger
or less proportion of air
on conservation, put
milk in the milk-
phials in to determinate
proportions : viz
as a 4 ounce phial
1, 2, 3, & 4 ounces
respectively; insuring
it by an ounce
measure.

70

But if any material
difference is produced
by this circumstance,
it wil be sufficiently
perceptible in
so long a course of
extraction, without
the need of quadrupling
or even augmenting
the number of
phials for this single
purpose:

at least after the first
2, 4, 6 or 8 days.

71

On second thoughts
two variations, viz,
full and 1/4 seem sufficient.
