IIo 4. Means of preventing changes of temperature during the
necessary manipulations, &c. Videlicet, from
{entrance of external Air
{heat of persons.
{shifting materials
{examining materials.
{light

1. From the introduction of external air suring the entrance of
persons. Entry from above. Qu. Height of entry varied according to
the temperature of air? ex. gr. a summer door & a winter door.

Doors doubled. Qu. would not a gen slight asce descent
suffice, as no cold air could get out without hot airbeing able to supplying
its place which it could not in this case.

Time of experim entrance
the dawn of day, as being the coolest in the 24h?
with sufficient light.

2. Heat of the bodies of persons - they should wear thick
cloathing, remain as short a time as possible in the frigidarium
& consume no time in deliberation.

3. Shifting Materials.- deranges temperature from two circumstances
1o. their own heat, 2o the heated air they introduce. &c.
1o. prevented by reducing them exactly to the temperature at which
they are to remain. This may be done by either {Cooling or
{Heating

1. Cooling. By plunging in a tub of water exposed to
the air, as it is always a few degrees lower from evaporation.
Qu. Might not this be rendered still lower by porous vessels, such
as are used in the East Indies?

By afterwards mixing with the water in smaller quantity
some water drawn from the drippings of y ice in the Magazine of
ice. The water thus slightly heated may be as used for cooling
other materials: & may be allowed to remain till used in the
spaces allotted for that range degree of temperature.

For this purpose the Refrigeratory should be adjoining the Frigidarium
