If water to get out of the way of a vessel moving in it must
rise to the surface. The shape of that vessel should either
determine it to rise by the shortest passage or by raising
itself perhaps less in its own resistance.

If the head is flat the water takes what direction is
the easiest to itself to escape it must move with
more difficulty at first having a quantity of water to carry along
with it which quantity assumes a form which the vessel
t itself might as well have had.
