The tenderness of the law of all places?
Whatsoever of tenderness there may be in the case
is it to be found in the Law?
Whatever of this quality there may be in the
case, the seat of it is according to his own
showing not in the law itself but in the
minds of those who with such uniformity of
perserverance, and so much to the satisfaction
of the Reverend Doctor are occupied
in the breaking through the law, and violating
in secret the promises which the
Law — the voice of the King in Parliament
has from time to time contracted — contracted
in such explicit terms with those who on
each respective occasion have thought fit
on the score of protection to call for such
security at his hands.
