As to the benignity of the Crown,—
benignity is of the number of those
attributes which in the Every-thing-is-
as-it-should be School, both Masters
and Scholars make as sure of finding
in the metaphorical, as on a Coronation
day they would the jewels that belong
to the material crown. To what person
the metaphorical jewel attributed to
the crown really belongs and of what
sort of water it is made will by and
by be made a subject of inquiry; of
inquiry forasmuch as to that function
any the weakest hand is competent,
though the work of discovery is work
for stronger hands.
On this occasion and for this purpose,
the legislators (we are assured
by the Reverend Doctor) "trusts to the
