Chance led me at another time
into contact with another individual
of the countless multitude of persons
by whom benignity the benignity of
the Crown is displayed. Visitors from
time to time interrupting the conversation
the politeness of the gentleman dictated
an apology. Oh said he You
have no conception of the trouble that
attends my situation, if the inadequateness
of the appointments attached to it,
nor of the temptations which under such
a disadvantage a man has to contend

by the post a £10 Bank note with
no other accompaniment than a request
that I would attend to a case of
compassion that was pointed out to
