should be thrown over the Stone to destroy any tendency
the Stone may still retain to take the Printing Ink,
Then wash all the sand &c: away with clean water and
Pumice Stone till a fine surface is obtained. —
The best way of sanding off the Stones is to rub them face
to face with sand and water between added from time to
time. Great care must be taken not to rub one part of
the Stone more than another.

Writing Ink.

The Ink in the Cake is to be rubbed with soft or distilled
Water on a Plate as Indian Ink and used as thick as
it will flow nearly as thick as Cream.

It is better to rub the Cake on a dry Plate and then
add the water. The Pens used both on the Stone and
Transfer Paper should be firm pointed, hard
and yet elastic so that the Ink flows freely and the
line is clear and distinct.

A fine Camel Hair Pencil may sometimes be used
