wash off all the Gum with clean water and leave the
face of the stone damp but not wet, the Inking roller
having been well rolled on the Inking Stone, with a
small quantity of Printing Ink, so that it is distributed
equally all over it may now be passed over the Stone
two or three times till the lines have become charged
with Ink leaning lighter or heavier as you wish to fill
or charge the lines A sheet of damped Paper may now be
laid on the Stone, over it one of the Printing or Oil Boards
(or it may be attached inside the Leather Tympan)
The Tympan Turned down, the pressure applied which
should be more than double what is required for
Transferring so much as to show at once on the sheet how
far the pressure has extended you will not find a Copy
of the Writing or Drawing on the Paper, the Stone is
now to be damped with the sponge rolled with Ink &
the same routine being continued as long as any
impressions are wanted. If the same writing is to be
