..... O'Connor having on the 30 of April 1798
been on his trial for high treason at the Assizes at Maidstone,
the Earl of Thanet on an indictment for having
on that occasion and his endeavours to enable O'Connor
to make his escape out of Court, being having been convicted, was on
the 10 of June 1799 sentenced by the Court of King's Bench
Lord Kenyon Chief Justice to pay a fine of £1,000
to suffer imprisonment in the Kings Bench Prison Tower for one year and to find surety for
his good behaviour for seven years himself in £10,000 & two sureties in
£5,000 each.

To the propriety of this sentence no objection we have
intended to be made: And if the legality of it is out of
dispute. But if frustration of the law making contempt paralyzing the arm of the protecting law, and giving impunity
to delinquents were acts capable of being imputed for guilt
to than possessors occupiers of a station to compleatly abuse law, the
offence which drew this punishment upon the head of the
noble delinquent was but a peccadillo in comparison of the guilt
with which has become habituate in to the station of those by
whom the punishment was inflicted. Tis Go on with the comparison.
