Extract from.

"The following Protest against the proposed Meeting
in Wiltshire has been addressed to John Long, Esq. the High
Sheriff:–

"To the High Sheriff of Wiltshire
"Sir – It being publicly announced that a Requisition
"is about to be presented to you for the convening a County
"Meeting, to take into consideration the late proceedings
"at Manchester, we, the undersigned Freeholders of
"Wilshire, respectfully submit to you our decided sentiment,
"that a Meeting convened for such purpose at
"this important juncture would unduly tend to influence
"the public opinion on matters already in
"a train for legal investigation, and waiting for judicial
"determination.

"At the same time it would be of dangerous
"tendency, by weakening the confidence of all classes
"of his Majesty's subjects within this Country, in the
"wisdom, the integrity, and the power of the Tribunals
"which have hitherto maintained the equal
"administration of Justice in every Country. Signed
by
Pembroke and Montgomery (Lieutenant),
Beaufort,
Bath,
Aylesbury,
Randon,
Malmesbury,
Nelson and Bronte Andgae of the Clery,
Gentry, & Freeholders.
