1819 Dec. 4

Morn. Chron. Decr. 4, 1819
Extract from Debates in Lords

Lord Holland.
"But did the noble Earl forget a motion which he
"(Lord Holland) had submitted to the House six or seven
"years ago, – not to take away the power itself,
"though he wished that he could do it – not to charge
"the then Attorney General with any corrupt abuse,
"but to obtain permission to prove, by evidence at the
"Bar of that House, that ex officio informations had
"increased in the proportion of 20 to 1 beyond any other
"mode of proceeding, and that out of 20 informations
"that were filed, not above two or three were prosecuted?

"And there were at this moment more than 40
"prosecutions hanging over the heads of different
"individuals, for nine or ten years back."

N.B. To this question no answer was given either by
the Earl of Liverpool, by the Lord Chancellor, or by any
body else.
