1820. Octr 20.
Collectanea Naples.
Naples
Morn. Chron. Octr 20. 1820.

"It appears by the accounts from Naples and Palermo,
that a sort of compromise had taken place between the Palermitans
and the Neapolitan Government, and it is added as
a report brought by a vessel which had arrived at Leyhorn
from Syracuse, that General Pepe made a friendly entry
into Palermo on the 20th ultimo. This latter event however
is not noticed in an article from Palermo of the 25th in the
Journal des Debats of Monday, which merely states that
an armistice was negotiating with General Pepe & that
a Neapolitan fleet was to enter the bay of Palermo. According
to a manifesto stated to have been published by the
Palermitan Junta, the Neapolitan Government had
agreed that a Parliament should be held in Sicily, but
there is considerable confusion in the details, & the whole of
the differences seem to be the subject of negotiation, the
result of which is altogether uncertain. The Neapolitan
Parliament had met & proceded to receive the oaths of the
Deputies, and to transact other preliminary business. On
the 1st inst the Parliament was to be formally opened in
the presence of the King.

Ali Pasha is said to have been totally defeated by the
Turkish army abt 4 miles from Jamaica. It is also rumoured that
he subsequently took refuge with abt 400 men in the citadel which
to avoid being being taken prisoner he blew up, & thus perished.

Traveller. Octr 19. 1820

"We have received three days' French papers
this morning. The last are those of Monday.

The Constitutionnelle contains intelligence from
Naples of the 1st of October; on which day the Parliament
of the Two Sicilies was opened in the presence of the King
and the Royal Family. The King solemnly renewed his
oath to the Constitution, and declared his will that his son
should continue to hold the reins of Government. The patriotic
& affectionate manner in which the Prince Vicar
General returned thanks is said to have drawn forth
tears of joy from all who were present."
