1820. Novr. 11.
Collectanea Naples.

Morn. Chron. Octr. 26, 1820.

"The following paragraph is from a Ministerial
"paper:– "It would appear according to the French papers
"received this day that the Austrian Troops quartered
"in Italy are gone into cantonments for the present
"till after the meeting of the Sovereigns at Troppau. However
"we have just heard from a most respectable quarter,
"that the advanced guard under the command of
"General Baron de Frumont has entered the Neapolitan
"territories. As we have to relied on the subject of
"the war between Austria & Naples we think proper
"to state, that bills to a very large amount indeed, upwards
"of 100,000£ have within the last 3 days been remitted
"to Vienna. We will not pretend to say that these
"sums have actually been sent an account of Government
"but it was strongly reported so on change. Certain it
"is that our Government cannot send money to foreign Powers
"without the consent of Parliament but still money for
"such purposes as it is said may be applied from the Droits of
the Admiralty. (Sun).

"A letter from Naples in the Constitutionelle
"pourtrays in vivid colours the national enthusiasm
"to which the late events have given rise. Formerly
"it was necessary to demand 100 men for the military
"service in order to obtain 10, and even to use
"force to compel those 10 to join the army; but
"now such is the change in public opinion, that
"if 10 men are wanted for the army, 100 volunteers
"present themselves for the defence of their country,
"and the conscription is found to be altogether
"unnecessary."
