1820. Decr. 2d.
Collectanea

Morn. Chron. Novr. 29, 1820. "Hamburgh, Novr. 21.

"The post from Copenhagen has this moment
arrived; there have been a great number of arrests in
that capital, & among others, several persons of great
consequence. Their object appears to have been that of
obtaining a new Constitution, and a Representative
Government. Some lives have been lost, when the instigators
were arrested by the Police, but as the feeling is
throughout Copenhagen & the whole of Denmark is in
favour of a new Constitution, no doubt is entertained but
that it will ultimately be granted to the people.

Traveller. Novr. 29, 1820. "Copenhagen: Nov. 21.

"The State Gazette of to-day contains the following
official article:–

"Several circumstances having for some time past
given the police occasion to learn that there was a plan
to spread principles tending to disturb public tranquillity
and as it had also learnt that a small society respecting
whose real object the usual legal notice had not
been given, had hired rooms in the Broelag Street, measures
were taken in the evening of the 10th, when the
first meeting of the society was to take place to arrest
some persons among whom a certain Doctor of
philosophy named Dampe, was found to be in possession
of some papers the contents of which were of
so illegal a nature that they afforded the fullest reason
to arrest him & to institute a more particular enquiry.
From this as well as from the papers themselves
it sufficiently appears that Dampe's plans & conduct
are merely productions of his own heated imagination,
and have not found any support from
other persons."

Another account from Copenhagen Novr 21:–
"Doctor Dampe who was at the head of some restless
spirits, most of them mechanics is now confined in
the Castle. About 12 of these disorderly persons have
been arrested."
