pay of the Sultans when disappointed in their
expectations of self aggrandisement in Greece
But I feel I am wandering from
circumstances to assumptions. So you, of course,
who are acquainted with Mr B's character, the above
facts are not necessary to acquit him, but I hope
that if properly stated they may be convicting to
others who are strangers to his merits. If my authority
as having lately come from Greece, and being
a person in the confidence of the Greek Committee
under whose patronage I visited the country, can
give then any weight, my name is at your service.
I would however wish that any statement you
may give will come as from the Editor, and not
as a production of mine. The Gk. Conl. hereof
lately published some of my communications
not wish, by again by again giving a letter to the
press to seem to thrust myself on public notice.
