the primates & the aristocracy – possess estimable qualities, to which the
latter are wholly strangers. "They are" says as Colonel Stanhope idiom with
great truth & sense remarks "within the sphere of oppression, but without
the sphere of corruption."

Do we then despair of the cause of Greece? Far from it –

nothing but complete extermination can subdue the Greeks.
A land – where every arm is raised against the invader, must
necessarily be redeemed at last, unless which is very far from
the call it knew, its inhabitants are nearly or wholly easily concentrated &
can be easily destroyed. A thousand victories will not establish the
tyrant – a single defeat would be his overthrow –
