When the Sun warm the Cancer
And the Nightingale sings no more
There was customary from time immemorial
To kindle Sobolka fire in Czarny lasx x Hereditary property of the Poles.
Thither guests (strangers) and people of the village
Thronged in crowds towards the fire
Bąki Three fiddlers began then to play
And the orchards around rebounded with echoes
The company took up their seats on the green turf
And then arose six couples arose
Of maidens all dressed alike
All girdled around with
(Each) all skillful in song
All skillf in dance
they are Together they agreed to dance sing to dance at their turn
And The first maid then began:
Song of the 1. Maiden
Sisters! lo the fire is kindled
Lo there is left place for us
Let us friendly reach our hands
Let us sing at our turns.
Bright Unclouded night give us serene weather heaven
Guard Arrest winds, and rain
The time is come, – it is this night
That we shall watch till the early dawn.
We have it from our Mothers
Our mothers have it from their mothers
That on the St John's eve night
They used to burn Sobolkas fire.
