The observing Halina standing aside braced the
truth in Wiesƚaw's eye. John saying only truth
knew that he could not wound in aid

But tears rushed into the youth's eyes & he bowed
low at John's feet – bowed to the mother ashamed
at heart & long the house was silent & tears at this
rushed also to Halina's eyes as in spring on the
